A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance is dependent on temperature, in that NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistors, resistance decreases as temperature rises. An NTC is commonly used as a temperature sensor, or in series with a circuit as an inrush current limiter.

Many NTC thermistors are made from a pressed disc, rod, plate, bead or cast chip of semiconducting material such as sintered metal oxides.
